What Does A UI/UX Designer Actually Do?

Both UI and UX Designers primarily focus on enhancing the customer experience. UX means User Experience, meaning how something works and how people will interact with it and respond to it. UI on the other hand focuses on the overall look, layout, and feel of the website or application.

To bring these goals to fruition, the UI/UX Designers have to carry out tons of research. On their target audience and understand their needs and requirements. They also need to conduct research to define the way they will interact with the application and through that start designing the wireframes, build the prototypes, and work on the various color schemes. After determining all of these factors, the Designers then test the product on users, gather feedback and reviews through review metrics. They gather all of this valuable feedback before officially releasing the product. They can then use this information to tweak their products and make necessary improvements so that only the best version is released.

What Are The Skills Required?

There are plenty of skills that a UI/UX Designer needs to be successful in the Industry. Here are some of the most essential skills that UI/UX Designers need to equip themselves with.

Research Skills

The Designers need to have excellent research skills. Since their primary focus is enhanced user experience, they need to be able to gather different kinds of Quantitative and Qualitative data so that they can collect valuable data and insights to help them improve products for their customers.

Empathy 

The designer should be able to put themselves in the shoes of the customer when they’re in the process of designing. To enhance the user experience, you need to think like the user does. You need to design products that offer convenience and satisfaction. You need to develop the patience to deal with the user’s demands and make sure that they are satisfied at every step.

Technical knowledge

As a designer, it might be a good idea to be well equipped with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. It will be an added bonus if you have experience with Web Development and the programming languages of HMTL, CSS, Javascript and PHP. You should also be able to analyse user research to draw conclusions.

Wireframing and Prototyping skills

Wireframes are the information that is to be displayed on the page, they provide an outline of the structure of the page as well as the overall layout. They also show the overall direction of the user interface. Prototyping is the next process after wireframing. A prototype allows the user to test the product’s interface and this process is particularly useful for user testing. UI/UX Designers should be proficient in producing Prototypes and Wireframes quickly and effectively.
